Dog kennels in Pak Chong

th2

Even ten thousand kilometers away, we are on the road for the good cause 'Animal Protection concerns us all'. About 300 kilometers from the Thai capital, Bankkok, lies the town of Pak Chong. Pak Chong is a district in the western province of Nakhon Ratchasima and is called the gate to northeast Thailand. Years ago a genuine Berliner has settled here with his wife Ratana Meikke. They live on an area of about 2.5 acres. Out of love for dogs, the two opened both a hospital and a nursing station as well as a new home for their four-legged friends. At the moment they give shelter to 300 to 400 animals. Blind, deaf, two-legged, and three-legged dogs live a good life here.

Sick and injured animals are picked up and nursed back to health in dispensaries. The strays find a real home. Bailey and Co. aren't held in kennels but live freely, in symbiosis with the humans. Due to their high number, the feeding of the animals is an endeavour demanding huge quantites of food. Rice alone is used in a quantity of 60 kgs. per day. The food is prepared in huge, enamel coated catering bowls from where it is served in gutters close to the ground.

All installations in Ms. Rattana's paradise are in in a very neat and clean condition. During our visit, we noticed that of course the two depend on donations. Their own savings are almost depleted, and to be able to maintain the animals at this standard, support is warranted. Feed companies support Meikkes a little.

'Animal Protection concerns us all!' rendered emergency assistance to the amount of 50'000 Baht. This is followed by continued monthly support funds to ensure this good cause's continued existence. As mentioned before: Animal Protection must not stop at the border.

Update: One of our Animal Protection Officers was back in Pak Chong with another 50'000 Baht donation. He was welcomed warmly and was impressed by the same neat atmosphere as before.
